Seasons are often treated as women in a certain kind of calendar genre picture. Winter is a killer in New England and the worse it is, the better and sweeter spring can be. In the summer come the bugs.
This is a theme I worked on before and I revisited it mostly to gain some formal elements from my work in stained glass. I noticed that the borders in Victorian stained glass designs took up lots of surface area, but they did not diminish the central picture. Instead they magnify and enlarge it.
