This was the beginning of a revival of Christian imagery of lions and lambs as representations of power and sacrifice. I also included imagery of the king of the wood, a recurring character in many pagan societies who seems to reappear in early Christian and Romanesque church decoration. This painting is six feet high and displayed not in in frame but hanging like a cloth banner from a wooden slat. At this point I think I understood that painting was something that I was going to have to bring into metaphorical war. There are other things in my life that I am willing to go to war over and I had to find what in my paintings was worthy of that kind of commitment.
